Here’s another story about people and partnerships — a story, that inspires and contributes to the improvement of the local areas from different perspectives. This time, we will talk about Aliona Visnevscaia, the coordinator from the left bank of the “Youth Constellation” project, that is implemented by the Sanatauca-Chitcani partnership.

The ‘Youth Constellation’ project aims at a stronger cooperation among young people from both sides of the Dniester river, as well as at improving the local infrastructure – in our case, of a cultural space”, Aliona tells us. Her team’s partners are from the village of Sanatauca and they have arranged a park area near the Dniester river, where, according to the project, there was organized a common activity with the participation of both partners – four camping days in this beautiful area.

We’ve had a wonderful collaboration – the young ones definitely befriended each other”, Aliona states. According to her, there were planned a few activities within the project. “We write, we call and we always ask for each other’s pieces of advice. We also plan to organise a couple of cinema sessions in the park of the Chitcani’s House of Culture”, she adds.

If we talk about the acquired experience within the project, Aliona mentions that everything was exceptional. “I’ve got the chance to be, for the first time, the main coordinator. Usually, the positions I hold are the ones of support or assistance, but now, I’ve got the opportunity to grow, to work on my abilities. The project also was the necessary impulse to create a non-commercial organisation”, Aliona tells.

The locals are very happy about a project like that. “Some people did not support us from the very beginning, but we always had enthusiasts that are not indifferent to what is happening in the village, especially in the context of the nowadays population migration. The village has those people that want to make a change in it”, Aliona mentions, adding that these people were ready to share some of the goods they have around the house in order to improve the park, they joined the team’s cleaning initiatives. “Access to Success brought me closer to people, as I had the chance to be guided by experts in the area, from whom you take the experience and listen to each of their advice. I got to know so many other interesting people from the organisations involved in the partnerships. Today, we are a big family.

Aliona adds that the partnership she’s in plans to apply for other projects, maybe even create a four-member project for the development of the rural tourism. “I advise everyone not to lose hope, to let fears go and move forward”, she finishes.

Through the multitude of the projects in rural development, there is one regarding the yard pavement of the church of Cucuruzeni village. The project, to which we dedicate this articles, is a part of the Sports, culture and recreational services development priority, chosen by “Bastina Gospodarului” LAG.

“The church is architecture monument, a building that is more than 160 years of age. A year ago, when we started frequenting the LAG sessions, we hoped to gain support for its restauration – no renovation was made to it since 1989”, Leonid Sirghi tells, a priest in Cucuruzeni village.

He adds that, at the beginning, his team was quite sceptical. “We’ve managed to fit into the project and paved 180 square metres from the yard, that we really hope will serve us many years ahead. The local community is happy about these beautiful changes”, he adds.

According to him, there was supposed to be a certain sum as a personal contribution, but it only covered the expenses for half of the yard. “Thanks to the support of the local community and to parish assembly, we’ve mobilised to finish the pavement for the whole area. Thus, the personal contribution exceeded a few times the sum of the project, but the help from the LAG was absolutely needed”, Father Leonid mentioned.

The community of the Cucuruzeni village is quite numerous, the majority of it being Christians of all ages and occupations, that come to support the renovation of the building as they see it as the village’s history. “This is a saint place, where people gather, reflect on their actions, recharge themselves with energy. People saw that it is possible and they have got the trust of the help offered from other funds.”

In the future, the church community plans to start a social cantine for elders and a sewing workshop. “Maybe these plans will help us to unite people. We hope to implement many social projects for the community”, Father Leonid says.

“Daring is caring. We have to continue move further. Everything will be achieved through hard work. We have already seen that it’s proved – both here and in other areas, the LAGs are efficient”, Father Leonid ends. The project “The pavement of the church yard”, implemented by the Cucuruzeni village, Orhei disctrict, was implemented within the USAID LEADER Activity project, co-financed by the United States Agency for International Development – USAID, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, cooperation programme for development – Polish aid, and implemented by Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova.

December 5 marked the end of a new chapter in the Urban Revitalization through the “Synergy for Urban Development” Conference. This event gathered the representatives of the 16 cities involved in the process, the Polish partners, the national and regional partners and development partners, in order to discuss the lessons learned in the past three years of a project, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy of the Republic of Poland.

The presentations and panel discussions analysed the created initiatives in the involved cities, their impact on the local communities, future plans in the development of the urban areas and the local and regional cooperation.

“We talk about joint efforts, undertaken by people from various domains – administration, civil society, business area. We have to discuss and to identify our needs and to try to achieve the common goals that we’ve together established. We talk about common work”, mentioned in his discourse his Excellency, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in the Republic Moldova, Bartłomiej Zdaniuk. “We have to work together to elaborate a vision of our cities and what we can do to achieve it”, he added, mentioning that the process taught the implementation team and the involved actors many things – that it is possible to do great things out of small resources, that we have to work to our limits and that we have to go further and think about a central and regional vision.

Tomasz Horbowski, the director of Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova, mentioned about the importance of the notion “common good” in the process of revitalization. “We are convinced that the development process is a continuous one – we have to always reflect on the undertaken work and to think the next steps. We are very happy for this common experience”, he mentioned, thanking the partners from MARDE and the Ministry of Poland, regional partners and cities involved in the process, but also to the working team. “We’re always open for an experience exchange and the creation of the synergy”, he added.

The cities that have participated in the process analysed, during the event, the activities in the years of 2018 and 2019. The city and municipality representatives specified the importance of the involvement of local communities at every level of the urban revitalization process, illustrated the initiatives implemented at the level of the urban areas through pictures and videos.

The event was extremely active, inviting the guests to open discussions about the application of the Polish experience at the country level, the experience of the responsible persons of the urban revitalization in the cities of the Republic of Moldova, but also of the direct and indirect beneficiaries of the project, global trends and their applicability to the Republic of Moldova.

The article belongs to the series of implemented activities in the context of promotion of the Urban Revitalisation approach in Republic of Moldova with the support of the programme for development and cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland.
